What Is the Prepared Environment?
Based on Montessori principles, the prepared environment is a beautiful, harmonious classroom with an ordered array of sequential learning materials. Cleverly designed, developmentally appropriate, and aesthetically appealing, these materials make abstract concepts concrete through hands-on sensorial experience.

Supporting Sensitive Periods
Dr. Montessori recognized that a child learns a skill most easily when it is pursued during the corresponding sensitive period.
A child’s fascination with order is honored by a place for everything and a clear sequence to each day. Stable structure helps the child predict, compare, and make sense of the world.
Precise language is woven into real activity and conversation. Children absorb vocabulary most naturally when words are attached to concrete objects and daily routines.
The environment is child-sized, so movement becomes purposeful. Children cut fruits, sweep, dust, and pour liquids with barely a drop spilled — building coordination and quiet confidence.

The application fee is $75.00.

How does the environment support independence?
Used in the non-competitive Montessori classroom, the materials allow each child to develop at his/her own individual rate. The child is free to select the materials which entice or awaken their own periods of interest and readiness. When they are hungry, they prepare their own snack and drink. They go to the bathroom without assistance. Even very small children are responsible for the care of their own child-sized environments. When something spills, they help each other clean things up.
